This is Derek’s own car, a simple A4 with a few enhancements.

Choosing Wheels was the first dilemma, but he opted for the 18" OZ Racing Superleggera and H&R coil-overs along with cross-drilled Brembo rotors all around. A TAP chip and Remus exhaust take care of performance.

The factory dash was the next thing to go. Having taken prior measurements he choose this exact year and model A4 to accomplish the next task.

The ashtray was removed and some components were relocated to make room for the Eclipse 7" LCD screen and radio. The fog light and hazard buttons were relocated in front of the shifter where the ashtray once resided. The climate control was moved down along with the radio several inches.

To securely mount all the new components a steel bracket was constructed that bolts to the factory dash mounts. It holds the screen, radio, IR eyes, cup holder and climate control.

A 1/4" thick ABS plastic was bent and precisely cut with a router to fit the new dash and its components. It was then wet sanded and color/texture matched to the original Audi Dash.

The horizontal cup holder was exchanged for a vertical one out of a Saab 9-3. The screen is mostly used for the Alpine navigation, but can also display DVDs, TV or any auxiliary A/V input like a video camera, laptop or games.

The small Eclipse DVD player conveniently found its home in the glove box.

The small space in the center console behind the cigarette lighter holds the video selector button. Behind that is a bass control knob and a control knob for the navigation volume which now plays through the factory door speakers.

Good video needs good sound. So as we do with most Audis, we made custom kick panels to house Focal's flagship Utopia 6.5" component set. Tubular steel braces bolt right to the frame of the car to ensure maximum midbass performance.

To get great bass without sacrificing trunk space we chose four JL Audio 8" infinite baffle woofers. The rear deck was constructed out of several layers of 3/4" MDF and has the woofers facing down for a clean low profile look.
